In 2003, two Australian men created Movember, with the goal of raising funds and awareness of men’s health issues by growing mustaches during the month of November. Almost 20 years later, the organization touts more than 6 million “mo bros” and “mo sisters” whose fundraising has supported more than 1,200 men’s health projects worldwide.

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance/SCCA Proton Therapy Center Merger

The Seattle Proton Therapy Center (the “Proton Center”) is pleased to share that after years in partnership with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), the Proton Center has officially merged with SCCA. SCCA is a world-class cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, UW Medicine, and Seattle Children's to help patients lead better, longer, richer lives. The Proton Center will continue to be known as the SCCA Proton Therapy Center. Under this new ownership, we can offer you access to SCCA’s renowned cancer specialists in addition to the outstanding care you have been receiving at the Proton Center.

West Seattle native Anka Milenkovic-Bobo has always had seasonal allergies, including allergy-induced asthma, but when her breathing difficulties and cough didn’t improve after a year despite inhalers, her doctor suggested they conduct some additional testing. An X-ray and CT scan revealed a lump in her lung just as COVID made access to care more complicated. After a biopsy confirmed a localized adenocarcinoma, Anka researched various cancer centers in the area, settling on proton therapy.

Meet our Lung Expert Dr. John Kang

We’re excited to have a new proton therapy thoracic cancers specialist starting at the Center, Dr. John Kang. Dr. Kang became interested in medicine through his mother, who was a doctor in China. He settled on radiation oncology because he feels it perfectly blends technology, medicine, patient care and research. No other medical field ticked all the boxes of his interests.
