Recap of Three Fall Sponsorships

Recap of Three Fall Sponsorships

Every year, the SCCA Proton Therapy Center sponsors organizations which participate in cancer care, either through treatment, research or support. This fall, the Center proudly sponsored three events, including Run of Hope, ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/ Walk, and Making Strides for Breast Cancer.

Run of Hope

On Sunday, September 24, staff from SCCA Proton Therapy Center joined patients, survivors, and supporters at the ninth annual Run of Hope Seattle 5K as a 2017 Platinum Sponsor. This event brought together the community while raising awareness for pediatric brain tumor research at Seattle Children’s Hospital, successfully raising $665,000 in funds. “It’s the most popular run we do with staff, and it’s great to see so many of our patients there,” says Amy Walgamott, who organizes our presence.

ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series

On Saturday, October 7 in Snohomish, people came together to raise money and share hopes around prostate cancer during the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk. From funding research to providing educational and support resources to at-risk men in the community, staff and past patients from SCCA Proton Therapy Center showed their dedication to the cause. In particular, past proton therapy patient, David, came all the way from Gig Harbor to walk, and earned a top fundraising prize to boot!

Making Strides for Breast Cancer

On Saturday, October 21 at CenturyLink field in downtown Seattle, the SCCA Proton Therapy Center hosted the Survivor Tent at American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. The event is a noncompetitive 3 to 5 mile walk that makes a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. From the opening ceremony to the post-walk entertainment, a Making Strides event is a celebration of survivors and provides the opportunity to remember loved-ones lost.
