Meet Trang Nguyen, RTT

Meet Trang Nguyen, RTT

Meet Trang. Trang has been with us almost from the beginning as one of our Radiation Therapists. Trang often works with the prostate patients in Room 1. Here are our 5 questions for Trang.

What led you to become a Radiation Therapist?

My mom is a breast cancer survivor and I recalled going with her to her radiation treatments when I was 10. When I decided to move onto a new career from my previous one as a pharmaceutical researcher, I thought that devoting my life to fighting cancer would be a rewarding experience, and it has been.

What’s the best part of your job here?

The people. No doubt. When I came to work here at the center in its fledgling days, I knew that I had an opportunity to shape and affect what this center would become in terms of how we related to our patients and each other. So I strive to make this place an open and welcoming experience for everyone who comes through these doors.

What do you do to relax or have fun?

I love watching movies and playing strategy games to relax. My favorite strategy game is a competitive card game called Magic:The Gathering, it was created by a mathematician name Richard Garfield who attended the same high school years prior to me. By the time I started playing in high school, the game was already wildly popular and is now one of the most played games with over 20 million players. I love the mathematics, psychology and competition the game offers. My new favorite hobby, which isn’t always relaxing, is playing with my 2-year-old, Nolan.

If you could meet anyone, who would it be?

Warren Buffett and Bernie Sanders. People say I have an old soul and I guess I can’t deny it. I truly want to meet these two gentlemen. I admire their authenticity. It’s easy to put up a front to become famous, but these two have had two extremely consistent careers where a person can look at their records and appreciate the hard consistent work they have done. They are both wise, in my opinion, and both have legacies that will affect the world for many years to come.

Tell us a good joke!

"A pun, a simile, and a limerick walk into a bar…."

“Okay…so, where’s the joke?”

"The joke was busy finding a parking spot."
