5 Things to do in Seattle in Summer

5 Things to do in Seattle in Summer

At Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Proton Therapy, many of our patients have traveled from outside the area for treatment and are new to Seattle. We want every patient to feel welcomed by Seattle and encourage our patients to explore the city’s wonderful offerings during their stay. Each season brings unique activities to enjoy. With summer right around the corner, we’ve listed five of our favorite Seattle summer activities:

Pike Place Market

While Pike Place Market is a popular tourist attraction year-round, the market is especially wonderful during the summer. Walk through the marketplace and shop seasonal local produce, unique handcrafted artwork and an abundance of fresh fish and seafood. There is also a variety of specialty foods you can sample, or discover one of the many restaurants located around the market. For coffee aficionados, stop in at the very first Starbucks Coffee!

Visit the Beach

Nothing says summer like going to the beach! Located in Ballard on Puget Sound, Golden Gardens Park offers strolls along the coastline, hikes through forest trails and sunbathing on sandy beaches. The park also has other amenities such as an off-leash area for dogs, a grill station with picnic tables, and fire pits for a toasty bonfire, making for a great summer outing! There are many other beachfront parks in Seattle, including Discovery Park, Carkeek Park and Lincoln Park

Tour Seattle from the Water

Take a tour of the Ballard Locks, Puget Sound or Discovery Park through a guided kayak tour at Ballard Kayak. Guides will lead you through these beautiful areas where you will get to sightsee and learn more about the area. Almost all tours are family friendly and are a great way to explore Seattle in a way you never have before! If kayaking sounds like a bit too much, take a cruise with Argosy from the Seattle waterfront.

Shakespeare in the Park

During the summer, you can enjoy Shakespeare in the Park performances all around the Seattle area. Both Seattle Shakespeare Company and GreenStage offer free, outdoor productions of classical plays performed in parks throughout the region. Pack a picnic and bring your family to enjoy these fun summer shows!

Go Whale Watching

Have the experience of a lifetime with a whale watching tour at Puget Sound Express (they offer our patients 10% off M-Th)! Lounge on the spacious and comfortable vessel and take in the multitude of whales, dolphins, seals and other marine life you’ll have a chance to see. Puget Sound Express guarantees you’ll see whales, or else your next trip is free. See the concierge for the discount code!
