Supporting the Community in the Fight Against Cancer

Supporting the Community in the Fight Against Cancer

On Saturday June 6th staff from the SCCA Proton Therapy Center joined patients, survivors and supporters to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event held at Green Lake. It was an inspiring weekend filled with hope, celebration, and remembrance of those affected by cancer.

Our staff and their families showed their dedication to the cause by participating in the 24-hour relay to raise funds for cancer research, advocacy efforts, and support services for cancer patients and their caregivers. Our very own Nikki Neger, Radiation Therapist, shared her story as a cancer survivor in the kick-off ceremony and joined other survivors in the opening lap.

Supporting the community in the fight against cancer is a cause the Center feels passionate about. In fact, our Center will also be participating in the upcoming Run of Hope race on September 27th. The Run of Hope race has raised more than $1.7 million dollars for pediatric brain tumor and cancer research efforts at Seattle Children’s Hospital and is hoping to surpass $2 million dollars after this year’s fundraising efforts.

In addition to participating in community events like Relay for Life and Run of Hope, SCCA Proton Therapy Center also hosts patient activities to support those being treated and their families. The Center hosts a weekly Dine Around, where patients, both current and former, can come together and get to know each other over a meal.  The Dine Around program is intended to  provide a supportive environment for patients to connect, engage in discussions about dealing with cancer, and to make new friends who share a similar journey.
