5 Q’s with John Bono

5 Q’s with John Bono

John Bono was born and raised in the Boston area going to Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriot games. He comes from a big family, with two older sisters, one older brother, three nieces, a nephew, and endless cousins. When John saw the opportunity to work at the SCCA Proton Therapy Center he jumped on it! He has now been here at the Center for two years and loves both Seattle and the Center.

What is your role at the Center?

I am the Radiation Therapy Supervisor. In my role, I work on treatment simulation and scheduling. I make sure the patients have all their appointments scheduled and ensure any doctor orders are followed. I schedule the therapy teams’ hours. I also get involved in many of the complicated cases in treatment and CT.

What do you love most about your job?

I love teaching therapists how to do something new and then watching them go from not understanding the new information to being able to teach their coworkers.

What made you interested in proton therapy?

I have always been interested in proton therapy because it is innovative and can really help people that may otherwise not have treatment options. I also love staying on top of modern and advancing treatment technology.

What are your hobbies?

I like to hang out with my dog. I also play golf, softball, and football. I like to travel home to see my family in Massachusetts. I am a huge Patriots fan (sorry Seahawk fans)!

What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is from Jimmy Valvano. “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.” He has endless inspirational quotes and they are all equally moving.
