New Year’s Resolutions for 2020

New Year’s Resolutions for 2020

The beginning of a new year has been traditionally the time when people make resolutions to change habits, better themselves, pick up new hobbies and make better lifestyle choices. This year, we invite you to add some resolutions to your list that involve our proton therapy center. Here’s what you could do.

Attend our Monthly Support Group

Breakfast Buddies is a monthly get-together where patients - potential and current - as well as graduates from proton therapy, can share feelings and experiences in a safe, calm and comfortable environment. Our support group is moderated by Francine Baffa, who is a licensed mental health counselor with Cancer Lifeline. In addition, every other month, we offer a special presentation on topics of interest to our patients and graduates, ranging from “Navigating the Emotional Side of Cancer” to “Owning Your Story.”

Our next Breakfast Buddies will meet in our lobby on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 9 AM. Dr. Peterson will talk about “Naturopathy in Cancer Care.” To RSVP, contact Meredith Fane.

Join us for Prostate Dinner Club

If you are a prostate cancer patient in any stage of treatment – including “complete” – we’d love to have you join us for dinner, presentation and conversation, every fourth Wednesday at 5:30 PM. Prostate Dinner Club usually meets in the E-Wing Auditorium on Northwest Hospital campus. This month’s presentation will be led by a retired oncologist. We look forward to seeing you on January 22! To RSVP, contact Meredith Fane.

Begin Incorporating Mediation into Your Life

Mediation has so many benefits, including helping cope with stress. Our patients and graduates can learn the fundamentals of meditation and other stress-relieving techniques under the guidance of Linda Portnoy, MA, from Cancer Lifeline. She leads a monthly, hour-long session right here at our center, and it’s free. Make meditation one of your new year's resolutions if it isn’t already! The group meets every third Friday at 3 PM, and the next one will be held on January 17. To RSVP, contact Meredith Fane.

Make an Appointment for Naturopathic Care

Our patients and graduates can benefit from naturopathic care and acupuncture that supplements your cancer treatment. Make an appointment with Dr. Craig Peterson to benefit from nutritional counseling, immune support, and stress and anxiety relief. Please contact our concierge team to set up a good time. Dr. Peterson is usually at the center every Thursday.

Next time you are at the center, ask your care team what their new year’s resolutions are! We hope to see you soon.
