Holiday Roundup

Holiday Roundup

The holidays are a festive time of the year to give thanks, spend time with loved ones, and celebrate traditions. Here at the SCCA Proton Therapy Center, we have some festive traditions of our own.

Here is a quick recap of the holiday festivities at the Center:

Mary’s Place:
Every year our staff comes together to help those in need. This year we partnered with Mary’s Place, a non-profit organization which helps families on their journey out of homelessness. The organization's programs provide health services, housing and stability empowerment, food and nutrition, and more for the families they serve.

The Center launched the Winter Essentials Drive in November. Staff and patients contributed coats, blankets, socks, sweaters and many other cozy items to help keep families at Mary's Place warm this winter. Thank you to everyone who graciously donated.

Financial Advocates:
The holidays can be a difficult time for those undergoing cancer treatment and diagnosis. Cathy and our friends at the Financial Advocates Group in Tacoma went above and beyond giving back to our pediatric patients and spreading holiday cheer! The team donated many, many beautiful gifts to our patients and their siblings. Every patient and every child at our party received at least one gift. Cathy has donated gifts every year!

On behalf of all of us at the SCCA Proton Therapy Center, thank you for all that you do! We are so grateful for your generous contribution and support of our patients.

Gingerbread House Contest

Every year we challenge our staff to a Gingerbread House Contest! If you visited our lobby during the month of December, you likely saw the fierce competition this year. Many of our patients and and their families and friends voted for their favorite entry. The winning creation was "Seattle and the Space Needle," by our Nursing Department!

Congratulations to the winners: Tanya, Amanda, Jordan, Lesley, Melissa, Sita, Steve, Tristan, Gaia, Ethan and Tammie. The team won an ice cream social and bragging rights.... until next year!

Leadership Pancake Breakfast

Every year our Leadership Team likes to give back to staff, patients, families and friends, by serving up some holiday cheer in the form of pancakes! Our CEO, VP of Operations and Director of Medical Physics each took shifts serving hot and delicious breakfast.

Kids Holiday Party

On December 17, we invited our childhood cancer patients and their families, as well as the children and grandchildren of our adult patients, to come together for our annual holiday gathering. Hosted in the main lobby, kids enjoyed cookie decorating, a cocoa bar, and festive craft projects. Santa was also on hand to pass out presents. (He's a past graduate... shhhh!) Thank you to everyone who joined us!
