Festivities Brighten the Holidays

Festivities Brighten the Holidays

The holiday season may seem just about the worst time to have cancer in the family. To help provide joy in what can be a stressful and emotional time, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Proton Therapy Center hosts a couple of events in December in the hopes of giving each patient the best holiday experience possible.

This year, SCCA Proton Therapy Center sponsored its second annual Holiday Breakfast, allowing patients to jingle and mingle with their families, staff members and physicians while enjoying delicious breakfast favorites. From fluffy pancakes and savory sausage links to decorated snowman cookies, there was plenty of tasty goodness to go around. “We attended the event last year and were so excited to return,” said a patient. “It really brightened our day, and we’re already looking forward to next year!”

Amongst the holiday decorations was a crafts corner for the kids, a beverage station and elaborate gingerbread houses constructed by various departments within the Center. The best part? Patients are able to vote for their favorite gingerbread house through the SCCA Proton Therapy Center’s internal patient Facebook page.

We wanted to do something extra special for our childhood cancer patients currently receiving treatment. SCCA Proton Therapy Center hosted its annual holiday party where kids and their loved ones had the opportunity to decorate Christmas cookies, take photos with Santa Claus, play games and even receive a few gifts of their very own. “I absolutely love decorating the cookies,” said a patient. “It’s my favorite part. Plus, they are so yummy.”

Finally, SCCA Proton Therapy Center adopted two families in need this year. Both families were hit with cancer in the family. We were able to make sure they had a wonderful Christmas with lots of food and presents and cheer.

While everyone at the SCCA Proton Therapy Center looks forward to providing patients with festivities during the holiday season, we also offers a variety of resources for those who may need extra support.
