Meet Jason Dixon

Meet Jason Dixon

Meet Jason, a veteran of proton therapy. Jason started at the MidWest Proton Radiotherapy Institute in Bloomington, Indiana, the third proton therapy center in the US. From there, Jason conducted clinical training in pretty much every department - radiation therapy, intake, nursing, physics, MDs - in Oklahoma, New Jersey and Seattle. He helped start the first certification program for proton radiation therapists. We are certainy lucky to have him!

What do you do at the Center?

As the Vice President of Operations, my role is to ensure that every department has what they need to be successful with our patients. I work collaboratively with managers, directors, and physicians within all areas of the center and, oftentimes, with many groups simultaneously to treat patients as well as develop, design, and improve all aspects of treatment interactions.

Why do you like proton therapy?

I have been in the proton field for 11 years. I enjoy working with people who have cancer – being a part of their journey to healing. I firmly believe protons are the ideal treatment for many types of cancer and will continue to be an advancing field within radiation oncology.

What’s the most fun you’ve had at work?

Reflecting and celebrating with a patient who started his treatment being wheeled in on a stretcher, moved on to a wheelchair, and ended his treatment walking with the assistance of a walker. At his follow up he was running down the hallway!

Tell us something surprising about yourself.

I have a twin sister. She's very similar to me, but much more artistic.

If you could meet anyone at all, who would it be, and why?

I would like to meet my father again. He passed away from cancer and I’d like to laugh with him again. I’d like to give him a hug and ask him about everything on my mind.
