Crosscut On target: Proton beam therapy improves quality of life post-cancer

Just a few weeks before her 11th birthday, Avery got sick. Really sick. After a visit to the emergency room, an MRI and a variety of other procedures to evaluate her headaches and nausea, her family learned that her symptoms pointed to something far worse than the common flu. Avery was diagnosed with a very rare brain cancer called atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, or AT/RT, most often seen in children age 3 or younger.
Thanks to her personality and her family’s dedication in supporting pediatric cancer research and awareness, Avery has appeared in a variety of articles and events, including this recent one in Crosscut. Read more about Avery's story here!
