5 Q's with Nikki Neger

5 Q's with Nikki Neger

Nikki Neger is a radiation therapist at the Center and knew that she wanted to have a career in cancer care after facing her own diagnosis while in college. When Nikki was 19 years old she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Her experience made her decide to change her course of study in college and go into radiation therapy. She has now been a radiation therapist for five years and has been with our Center for more than two years.

What is your role at the Center?

I am a Radiation Therapist and my job is to deliver proton treatment to our patients. Along with my treatment partner, I set up each patient, take x-rays, and position them. After they have been setup in the correct position, I deliver the radiation treatment.

What do you love most about your job?

I love working with the patients. When a patient comes in on their first day they can be anxious, but I get to be there to help ease their worries and make them feel more comfortable with the process.  The patients are so appreciative of the treatment and of the care we provide. I really enjoy seeing the impact that I am making on their lives.

What made you interested in proton therapy?

Proton therapy is a really innovative treatment method. I was initially drawn to proton therapy when I learned of the benefits over traditional radiation therapy. I was intrigued by the technology and when I learned they were building the first treatment center in the Pacific Northwest, I was excited to join the team!

What are your hobbies?

I am currently in school working towards my MBA, so that takes up a lot of my free time! I do enjoy spending time with my family and just relaxing when I get the chance.
