What does proton therapy mean to you?

Working at the proton center has been a privilege. I am proud to work for an organization that is actively working to ease suffering and allow families to be together longer. While not patient facing, my career helps keep things running smoothly. Knowing that I can help make life saving treatments available to the people who need it makes my job that much more worthwhile.

What got you started in your career?

I have worked in many different areas: law, banking, Amazon, and animal welfare. After working at PAWS in Lynnwood I learned about an opportunity at the Center and interviewed with Annika. The start-up atmosphere and wide-ranging responsibilities meant that I never feel bored or under-utilized. My job here has touched nearly every department and helped me acquire new skills that I never would have attained otherwise.

Tell us something surprising about you.

While I have been at the Center for 6+ years, I have never stopped working for PAWS. I still help with the occasional data project and have continued to be a foster parent to kittens and dogs in need. It would be surprising, I suppose, to know that I am, in fact, allergic to cats. My husband and I will always have fosters, but our permanent collection won’t exceed four. We have three cats: Dutch, Mookie and Barkevious, and a dog, Wrigley.

What do you like to do for fun?

My husband just became a muscle car owner, so we have been enjoying road trips and exploring Snohomish County looking for the perfect breakfast. Whenever we get some extra time, we head to Chelan to stay at my parents’ cabin. And finally, with our new home comes a very large yard – one we have worked hard to win back from nature. My spring and summer weekends are spent planting, digging, trimming and building out a fire pit. One day I aspire to a riding-mower just so I can have a cup holder.
