5 Questions with Colton Kray

5 Questions with Colton Kray

Meet Colton, who is on the Concierge team. Last June he graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology. In the future, he plans on attending medical school to continue his pursuit as a physician. Read our 5 Questions with Colton!

What’s your take on proton therapy?

I believe proton therapy is the future of radiation oncology. I find this treatment fascinating because it couples the basic principles of physical science and medicine. Due to its ability to accurately target a tumor all the while having minimal side effects, proton therapy truly is precision medicine at its best. I’m excited to see all the future patients that will end up benefiting from proton therapy.

Why did you choose a career in healthcare?

I chose a career in healthcare because I thrive on the link between providing service for others and continually challenging myself intellectually. Healthcare is also one of those few fields where I can contribute to a noble cause and still have fun while doing so. After my time at the Proton Center I plan on going back to medical school to continue my pursuit as a physician.

What do you like to do for fun?

When I’m not at the Proton Center I enjoy being active; this includes – fishing, boating, and traveling. If I’m out fishing you can find me anywhere in the PNW, whether that’s off the coast, on a lake, or on a river. The same goes for boating. As for traveling, I spent some time in Europe after graduating from UW, but I want to do more.

Tell us a favorite recipe.

Since I am fisherman, my favorite recipe is a baked salmon fillet. The key to a perfect baked salmon fillet is as follows:

  • Lightly coat the fillet in olive oil.
  • Season with garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Add sliced lemon and tomatoes on top.
  • Sprinkle the fillet with parsley.
  • Bake the fillet in foil for approximately 30 mins.

What is your favorite quote?

“You can’t ever reach perfection, but you can believe in an asymptote toward which you are ceaselessly striving.” – Paul Kalanithi (from his book When Breath Becomes Air)
