5 Questions with Dr. Ed Kim

Dr. Kim treats patients with gastrointestinal and soft tissue cancers at SCCA Proton Therapy Center. His clinical research interests include intraoperative radiotherapy and quality of life measures during radiotherapy. Previous to joining Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Dr. Kim was Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Ohio State University Arthur James Comprehensive Cancer Center. “I believe in individualized care and making decisions with my patients as a partnership,” says Dr. Kim.

Why are you passionate about proton therapy?

Proton therapy allows us to deliver cancer treatments in ways that were not previously possible.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Helping patients and their families navigate through the difficult and life altering experience of cancer. 

What is your favorite part of the workday?

Spending time in the clinic talking with patients.  

What’s the one thing about you that would surprise us?

I once won a contest in a shopping mall for correctly (but randomly) guessing the number of jelly beans in a 6 foot tall container.
