Seattle Cancer Care Alliance/SCCA Proton Therapy Center Merger

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance/SCCA Proton Therapy Center Merger

To our valued community:

The Seattle Proton Therapy Center (the “Proton Center”) is pleased to share that after years in partnership with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), the Proton Center has officially merged with SCCA.

SCCA is a world-class cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, UW Medicine, and Seattle Children's to help patients lead better, longer, richer lives.

The Proton Center will continue to be known as the SCCA Proton Therapy Center. Under this new ownership, we can offer you access to SCCA’s renowned cancer specialists in addition to the outstanding care you have been receiving at the Proton Center.

What does this mean for you?

Your quality of care and your care team at the Proton Center will not change. What will change is that you will now be able to access other offerings at SCCA, such as physical therapy, nutrition services and psychosocial services including psychiatrists and social workers. Please contact your concierge team if you’d like to learn more. You can also follow these links to learn more about SCCA’s resources:

What happens to your personal information?

Our teams are working hard to transition your care smoothly and transfer your health information. As of July 1, 2021, SCCA became the keeper of your medical records.

We hope you choose to continue your care with the Proton Center, in which case you don’t need to do anything.

If you wish to transfer your care to a new provider or get a personal copy of your medical records, please fill out the medical records request form: seattlecca.org/patients/medical-record-request. All information in your medical records will remain confidential and held in strict confidence. You can also request your medical records by contacting us via one of the following:

Will your insurance still cover your treatment at the Proton Center?

Please confirm your coverage by contacting your insurance company to see if SCCA and UW Physicians are in network or to learn which out-of-network benefits are available to you. Most SCCA doctors are employed by UW Physicians, which is why it is important to confirm if both SCCA and UW Physicians are in network.

SCCA bills your care in two parts: a physician fee, which pays for your doctor’s care, and a facility fee, which includes charges such as clinic visits, infusion, equipment and supplies. Make certain to ask your insurance company if your physician and SCCA are each in network.

If you have questions or if your insurance provider tells you that SCCA or UW Physicians is out of network, please call SCCA Proton Therapy Center’s Patient Financial Services team at (206) 306-2800 or toll-free at (888) 984-7782.

We warmly welcome you to the SCCA family. We look forward to continuing to provide you with the very best in cancer care.
