5 Questions with Quang Dang

Quang Dang is the dosimetry manager at the SCCA Proton Therapy Center. He received his training in proton therapy while working as a proton dosimetrist at Massachusetts General Hospital located in Boston, MA. He received his certification in medical dosimetry in September of 2011 and has a total of seven years of experience, with two years at the Center.   

What is your role at the Center?

I am the dosimetry manager at the center and am responsible for leading my team in generating complex proton treatment plans that are unique to every patient. This involves training of staffing members on current and new treatment planning techniques that are used to maximize the dose to the tumor while sparing the surrounding organs at risk.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the fact that I am a part of a team that is helping to heal and provide a better quality of life for our patients.

What made you interested in proton therapy?

I began to look for a career that involved cutting edge technology and the opportunity to help out people in the community. Dosimetry was my first career and I haven’t looked back.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy traveling with my wife to visit new cities and countries. I also enjoy hiking the trails available in the Pacific Northwest.

What is your hidden talent?

I can play the piano.
