2015 National Proton Conference

2015 National Proton Conference

Last month more than 250 people convened at the National Proton Conference in Arlington, Virginia to discuss the future of proton therapy.  The three days were packed with dynamic presentations from experts in all aspects of proton therapy.  Our four attendees from Seattle absorbed a great deal of information from technological updates in the treatment rooms to advances in treatment planning and operations of a proton center.

Our Clinical Director, Lorrie Miller, states that one of her key takeaways from the conference is that there are rapidly changing paradigms in the field of proton therapy. “It has moved from being ‘experimental’ with a focus on pediatrics, eyes and prostates with very long treatment timelines, to the current state where it is now: more safe with more disease sites treated and much shorter treatment planning timelines,” shared Lorrie. We also heard information from other centers about utilizing innovative partnerships and sharing the proton story with medical leaders, as well as those in our local community and neighboring hospitals.  The conference also highlighted exciting developments in technology used for treatment planning and motion management, areas that we feel we are leading the way in many aspects, here in Seattle.
