Who is a candidate for Proton Therapy?
Only a small percentage of cancer patients are good candidates for proton therapy for cancer. Yet for this small group it’s precision destroys the cancer cells while protecting healthy tissue, which in many cases, can offer fewer side effects. Particularly good candidates for proton therapy are patients with solid tumors near sensitive organs, such as brain, breast and lung cancers. While, for recurrent, pediatric and ocular cancers, proton radiation is viewed as the standard of care.
